I can honestly now say that I have tasted the BEST fried chicken and you can find it right here in the Queen City. On June 9th I attended Tabor’s first dinner party featuring Chef Thomas Marlow of Mimosa Grill, co-hosted by Ted Williams and Katie Levans of the Charlotte Agenda. The tables were beautifully set on the outside covered porch of Charlotte’s newest and very stylish men’s store, Tabor. My husband Martin joined me and enjoyed looking through Tabor’s fine collection of men’s clothing featuring designers Dries Van Noten, Jack Spade, Steven Alan and Thom Browne, just to name a few.
Tabor shares space with Southern Comfort Gallery known as SOCO owned by Chandra Johnson (Chani). The gallery is host to contemporary art and books featuring local, national and international artists. We were fortunate to be able to view Damian Stamer’s exhibit “Just Down The Road.” AMAZING!!! There is a very cool collection of vintage vinyl records to browse through as well.
We sat down to a beautiful dinner on the patio, a southern feast carefully curated and prepared by Chef Thomas Marlow of Mimosa Grill and One Catering of The Harpers Group. Our menu included: Sea Island Peas, Carolina Gold Rice, Chow Chow, Collards, Apple Slaw and Honey Spiced Fried Chicken. We had so much fun getting to know Scott Newkirk of Tabor and Jessica and Chris Kessler. Seriously- I am dying to have this entire meal again.
I wasn’t even hungry for dessert until they place the most beautiful Rainbow Butter Cream Cake I have ever seen in front of me. I ate all of it and half of Martin’s. Ask Scott. The cake was baked by Sarah Wrenn, director of catering for The Harpers Group.
Tabor will be hosting more summer dinners featuring different chefs from Charlotte. The venue, food and company is not to be missed.
